The paycheck that you receive is only a portion of the total package that the State offers to its employees. Many employees identify the benefits and other intangible workplace flexibility issues as top reasons why they continue to work for the state. The following are some of the most significant benefits that, added together, make up a very competitive compensation package.

Vacation & Leave State employees receive 10 paid holidays and may earn an additional 12 to 21 days of vacation leave per year, depending on the type of position, and the employee’s tenure with the state. Employees are also provided 12 days of sick leave per year, of which, up to 5 days can be used for the care of family members. Additional leave policies ensure employees have the tools to manage their personal and work lives surrounding such events as pregnancy and maternity, education, jury duty, and military service.
Flexible Work Arrangements Most state agencies have open office hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, depending on the agency and the specific responsibilities of the position, there may be options for employees to participate in flexible work arrangements. Some employees have participated through telecommuting and others have altered their work schedule to a 4-day work week. Flexible work arrangements are a management privilege and may not be appropriate for all employees or all positions. The state also has a very active travel reduction program and actively promotes alternatives to the single driver commuting to work. Subsidies for riding the bus, vanpool and matching drivers for carpools are just a few of the services offered. TELL ME MORE>>Travel Reduction
